Jacksonville Journal-Courier - Meredosia village board members recently discussed the state's legalization of marijuana for recreational use and how it might affect the village. The Illinois General Assembly passed a bill in May to legalize recreational marijuana for adults over the age of 21, and Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the bill into law in June. People will be able to buy recreational marijuana from licensed sellers beginning Jan. 1. Medical marijuana dispensaries will be the only places licensed to sell recreational marijuana products come January, but more licenses will be granted -and to other types of stores - by mid-2020. Board member Eric Taylor raised the topic, asking if the other board members would be willing to discuss letting a marijuana store operate in the community, based on the tax money that such an operation would bring to the town.
