Danbury News-Times - The debate over health care may have been fiery as mentioned in "Democratic debate: fiery exchanges over costs of health care" (Sept. 13), but it was also flawed because it didn't mention that one reason why health costs keep rising is that MRIs and CAT scans and blood tests are often done even when not necessary. Why? Because physicians are often hit with malpractice suits that are unjustified and based on questionable evidence. So they order these tests to defend against them. One way to control unnecessary testing is to deal with medical errors in special health courts that operate similar to workers compensation. This would eliminate unwarranted suits and take pressure off of doctors to order tests that may not be needed. Edward Volpintesta MD Bethel
